John G. Paton: Missionary to the Cannibals of the South Seas, by Paul Schlehlein
Paul Schlehlein, himself a missionary, provides a helpful overview of John G. Paton’s life and ministry. He traces Paton’s journey from humble beginnings in Dumfriesshire, to initial ministry efforts in Glasgow, a deepening sense of call to the mission field, and then on to exploits in the New Hebrides. Readers will discover a helpfully contextualised portrait of a man whose life was marked by a simple yet remarkable faith in a God who looks after his own as they seek to glorify him.
‘I am grateful to Paul Schlehlein for providing a new look at the life and ministry of John G. Paton.’
– JOHN MACARTHUR
‘These pages will challenge your commitment to Jesus Christ and intensify your zeal to live for the glory of God.’

John G. Paton: the Autobiography of the Pioneer Missionary to the New Hebrides
The autobiography of John G. Paton contains everything necessary to make it a missionary classic. With ‘the wail of the perishing heathen in the South Seas’ continually sounding in his ears, he prepared himself to serve overseas and was ordained as a missionary to the New Hebrides in 1858. The difficulties that confronted Paton were accentuated by the sudden death of his wife and child within months of their arrival. Against savagery and the superstition, despite trials and the tragedies, Paton persevered and witnessed the triumph of the gospel in two of these South Sea islands. His life is almost without parallel in missionary annals and his account of it is moving and gripping.
